Provenance: Paint Rock Angus Ranch, Hyattville, Wyoming, USA
On offer is a superb and extremely rare tibia and figula (hind limb bones) of an adult Stegosaurus dinosaur, found in the Morrison Formation in the Western United States. The Stegosaurus was a four-legged armored dinosaur, best known for its distinctive kite-shaped upright plates on their backs and spikes on their tails. So far, the remains of some 80 individuals have been found, the largest some 7.5 metres (25 feet) long and weighing over 5000 kilos.
This is a museum-quality specimen, with advanced fusion of the limbs. These iconic bones belonged to an armoured dinosaur that was common in the Morrison Formation during the late Jurassic period, approximately 145-155 million years ago. These specific elements demonstrate the robust build and adaptations of the Stegosaurus, which thrived in what was then a semi-arid floodplain environment with a diverse flora of ferns and conifers.
These specimens have been carefully prepared and stabilised using a scientific approach, in accordance with modern standards for fossil preparation, preserving the natural patina and mineralisation as a result of fossilisation. Both bones have a detailed surface structure and recognisable anatomical features, making them ideal for study or exhibition, perfect for museums, university collections or high-quality private colections.
Unique opportunity to acquire a tangible glimpse into the biomechanics and lifestyle of one of the most famous and studied dinosaurs from the Jurassic period.
This superb piece is presented on a custom-made metal stand with black finish, and ready to display. Much more impressive in real life than the photos can convey, and highly recommended.
