On offer is a very rare and beautiful M1 or M2 molar of a juvenile Gomphotherium from the Middle Miocene era (around 23 - 5.3 million years old). The Gomphotherium is an extinct genus of proboscids, which lived in Eurasia, Africa, North America and possibly Asia. It had four tusks, two on the upper and two on the elongated lower jaw, and it is thought to have had a short trunk (like a tapir). This molar comes from the lower jaw. Beautifully preserved and with a good chewing surface, as seen in the images. No restoration whatsoever, truly a museum quality piece, and highly recommended. The black and white section of the ruler in the image represents 10 cm / 3.9 inch.
